A website template (or templated website) has a pre-designed site or set of HTML webpages anyone can use to place their text content, images, and videos. Typically a web developer or designer built the template with HTML and CSS code which allows setting up a website much smoother and faster than building from scratch. Templates lower the cost of setting your site up quite significantly.

Although templates allow you more room in your budget, they are somewhat limiting. Since someone built the website template with a specific purpose in mind, this means you can only do so much with it. Aesthetically, you can only change images, texts, colors, typography, and a few other things. That means the layout is not negotiable and you won’t be able to change it very much, if at all.

Don’t let that stop you from using a website template because they’re beneficial.

Many companies use website templates for their websites, especially when starting. Some website templates give you the ability to change and add more functionality. It is excellent if you have a growing business and potential to grow because your website will be able to grow with your business.

There are a lot of content management systems (CMS’s) that web designers and developers use to build templated sites. Some of them are so easy to use that even those with limited web knowledge can use them to make a website. Wix and Squarespace are both examples of a CMS that is very easy to use and allows users with limited experience to build a website. WordPress and Joomla are examples of a CMS that is easy for users to maintain their website but is typically much more challenging to make.
